With Van going into the MTC this Wednesday I was able to get him out in the field where he and I have made some great memories. Today was another

It was a rainy Saturday and the geese were on the move.

Van always had a knack for hunting banded geese

I'll miss my firstborn but am so proud of what he will be doing in Chile for the next 2 years.

With Van in bed, Matthew, Maloy, Todd and I hit the marsh on the last day of the duck hunt.

The Sunrise was worth the trip

Hard to see the season end but we had a great time this year.

When the ducks dont fly we spins some donuts

We found a few mallards and Chief found a crippled Pheasant

We love spending time together and hope to be back again next year

My boys learn many great things in life in the outdoors. Driving is one of them

Turkey Bowl 2011. It was a hard fought battle

Young Bucks came out looking good but in the end experience and wisdom won the game

A few 2nd warders and I hit Utah Lake for some fast pan fish action

We caught crappie, bluegill,white bass, largemouth bass and perch. Andrew Tate and Elijah Urquiaga found the action hot.

I know this sounds crazy but the first weekend in October is my most favorite of all the year. I hope these pictures will explain. First is the opening of the waterfowl season.

Spent a great evening on the Berry with Andrew Tate and Chief.

We found a few classic berry cutts.

Saturday was the annual youth hunt and Carter Norton, Maloy and Brighton Anderson brought home the bacon.

Today I had the amazing experience to fly with the States Biologist in the Highway Patrol Helicopter. The purpose was to count Elk and Moose. We flew all day in many different areas up Provo Canyon, Wallsburg, Daniels Canyon and Heber. I was up close to hundreds of Deer , Elk and Moose. The highlight was the ride. Here's a few photos:

After a cold wet hunt last week, I was able to get out with some friends on a fun hunt that ended with some success.

Hide and seek. This deer was estimated to be between 9 and 11 years old with no top jaw teeth. He would not have made it through the winter. A good deer to harvest.

It was a year to remember and a year to forget. Lets call it the year of the storm. And CJane if you see this I need help formatting my pics so they fit on the blog.

All was well when Van, Matthew and Maloy and I hit the trail

Van even found a bonus ruffed Grouse for dinner

And then it hit and never stopped for 2 days.

Van was the wiser one. He was at the crossroads here of going up or being home on the couch watching the cougars. He chose the cougars

When the storm hit we hunkered down for a few hours. A fire warms the soul and a pine tree shades the rain.

We made it to Shingle Mill and it was all smiles but we knew the next 2 miles would be difficult

So we stayed in the Tent and sipped Hot Chocolate

If I could choose anyone in the world to be with under such miserable conditions it would definitely be Vance and Seth Checketts and

Christian and Liver Nielsen. These guys were nails and Liver won a windy pass green jacket.

The Clark Cousins harvested a classic windy pass 4 by ( only for you Nate)

Today I spent the morning in the Uintah mountains watching some amazing dogs

The dogs are run through a series of retrieves that they must perform with exactness

Live ducks are used to simulate real hunting retrieves

The dog handlers talk to their dogs as if they were human

Steve Graham came along and is a trainer in training

Dogs in the hole and on deck stay behind make shift blinds so they don't see the other dogs in action

A serious dog trainer rig. I may need one in the future

Throw in a cow and calf moose and those dogs really have to focus.

Harriet really wasn't too interested in fishing which was good because the bite was slow.

Today we went out 15 miles on the great salt lake to hunt ducks. What an adventure. Shown here: Todd Miller, Me and Darin Dewsnup

These are the coffin blinds that we lay in while hunting. The water is 8" deep and it gets cold.

Todd shown here in front of a few of the 400 silhouette decoys we put out. The teal never showed up like we hoped.

Staying warm is the name of the game. Hunting the salt water was a whole new experience. Thank goodness for a GPS to guide us home as a snow storm socked in on us.

Darin's airboat is an amazing machine. Riding over snow,ice,mud,weeds you name it and this boat will go over it at a high rate of speed. For me, riding in this boat was the highlight.

This is my good friend Joe Armstrong. Joe got in a fight with his Benelli last Saturday and got a fat lip.

Today Joe invited me on a duck hunt during a snow storm. It was great!!!

I shot a few, but Joe just doesn't miss

Chief came along as well and retrieved all our ducks
